HIGH-MOBILITY MULTIPURPOSE WHEELED VEHICLE (HMMWV)

HMMWV with STS Kit The HMMWV, (pronounced Humvee), replaced the jeep as the general purpose workhorse of the US Army. There have been two versions of the Standardized Teleoperation System applied to the HMMWV, standard teleoperation and autonomous operation.
Autonomous operation allows the HMMWV, with the aid of the Compact Multipurpose POSE Assessment System (COMPASS), to run continuously around a test track without the need for a driver.

Before autonomous operation, the vehicle is driven once around the test track from start to finish points in the "Learn" mode. In the "Learn" mode, COMPASS continuously records the vehicle's position. Once the learning loop has been completed, the Autonomous mode is selected and the vehicle follows the path previously recorded by COMPASS.
