VEHICLE CONTROL UNIT (VCU)

The VCU is the "brain" of the Standardized Robotic System-equipped vehicle. It responds to operator inputs from the Operator Control Unit (OCU) via the radio frequency datalink, and commands appropriate action from the High Integration Actuators and System Input/Output Unit to produce the desired vehicle response.

The VCU controls hardware such as the Video Multiplexer Unit, Power System Unit, and Mobile Radio Unit via a Controller Area Network bus, and may control additional hardware (e.g., a Pitch, Roll, and Bearing Sensor) directly via serial connection.  Simultaneously, the VCU gathers data from sensors and actuators throughout the vehicle, and sends a telemetry stream to the OCU, where it is presented on the OCU's Status Panel Display.

The VCU also initiates or responds to safety actions, and orchestrates Built-In Test for SRS kit components.
