OPERATOR CONTROL UNIT (OCU)

The OCU is a portable, environmentally-protected, suitcase-sized unit that contains control devices, video displays, and electronics. The OCU can be placed in a command vehicle or at a fixed location.

The OCU provides remote control of selected vehicle's driving and payload functions, and provides for mission safety via a PANIC STOP control. The OCU receives audio and selectable video inputs from the Unmanned Ground Vehicle. OCU control input devices give the operator virtually the same degree of control as when sitting in the driver's seat.

The OCU has standard and application-specific controls. To reduce operator training time, the application-specific controls resemble the configuration of the existing vehicle manual controls. In the picture above, the three panels along the front of the base are customized to the Caterpillar D7G.
