BASE RADIO UNIT (BRU)

The BRU contains telemetry and video radios for transmitting and receiving information between the Mobile Radio Unit located on the Unmanned Ground Vehicle and the Operator Control Unit.

The BRU attaches to the Command Vehicle's (CV's) antenna mount using a spring base or on a tripod for operating at a fixed location. The Base Antenna mounts to the top of the BRU.

The BRU uses the same heavy-duty spring (not shown) as the Mobile Antenna. This spring is similar to that used on the standard US Army Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System whip antenna mount.

This spring mounting method provides sufficient strength and stiffness to keep the mast and antennas oriented vertically when the CV is accelerating or decelerating, yet provides enough flexibility to allow the entire assembly to bend and rebound from a tree limb or wire strike.
